Direct link between two nodes
An overlay network where all nodes communicate with the same underlying technology.
We measured the overhead introduced by DaaS Overlay Technology on a transferring process resolved between two nodes directly connected:
Measures
To run the test we used the dperf tool on two moments:
- measure the underlay network throughput (with respect to socket.h)
- measure the network throughput (using libdaas.h)
We performed several measurements by varying the size of the transferred data block and therefore the number of packets transmitted and received:
Results
By analyzing the measurement data we can compare the throughput values for transfers performed using only the underline layer and those detected with respect to transfers performed with the overlay APIs.
Finally, taking into account the advanced features introduced by DaaS with the self-configuration, security and scalability mechanisms, and therefore the possibility of optimizing the distributed measurement network, we can consider the delay negligible compared to the benefits.
